The topic of this blog post is the comparison between the biblical view on mental health with that of Kraepelin’s theory. The bible has many verses showing how God intends for people to have a right relationship with Him in order to have good mental health. Kraepelin’s theory suggests that mental disorders are caused by personal experience, brain chemistry or genetic inheritance. There are some commonalities between these two theories but they also differ in many ways too. Some commonalities are that the bible states that people should do everything possible to keep their brains healthy and not commit suicide while Kraepelin’s theory suggests using medication when needed to prevent further damage. The following verses from the bible can be compared to different points of Kraepelin’s theory: “For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” (2 Corinthians 5:1) According to the above verse the "temple" of our mind is destroyed and we're taken back to a state not too different than animals. There's no talk of medication and it's implied that we can't depend on people or technology to restore our mental health. Instead, it's implied that we need to rely on God himself to restore our mental health. “The wicked desire evil, but justice is what the Lord sets before the people.” (Proverbs 16:4) According to this verse, people who are evil desires bad things in life but they can't really attain them unless they're given to them by God. Kraepelin's theory suggests that this verse implies that mental health depends on genetics and brain chemistry and is influenced by external events (for example stress). From these verses it can be seen that in some ways God is likely considered the complete cure in religion while Kraepelin's theory suggests there is no cure for mental disorders. These two theories, however, differ in another way: while Kraepelin’s theory is subject to change and requires more evidence and experimentation while the bible has stood the test of time and we should not question its truthfulness. The biblical view on mental health does not support Kraepelin’s theory. This is because God does not want us to sin, but it can be seen that people commit sins anyway. If this was because their brains are damaged there wouldn't be any reason for this. Kraepelin's theory involves brain damage due to external events which can include sinning. Sinning does cause brain damage because God says that doing sinning is bad for us. If there was a reason for mental disorders then God would not have said that it's wrong to sin. The Bible cannot be considered a reliable source of information or fact because it is not factual/reliable and so cannot be used as evidence to support Kraepelin's theory. Christianity rejects Kraepelin's theory and shows its understanding of mental health by accepting the fact that God can cure mental health problems. This evidence, however, does not support Kraepelin's theory and this contradicts the results of his experiment. It can also be argued that:The brain does not just create itself by itself and cannot just give an illness to someone. 24cfa1e7782069
